Thai Town (Thai: ไทยทาวน์) is a neighborhood in Central LosAngeles, California. In 2008, it was one of the five Asian Pacific Islander neighborhoods in the city—along with Chinatown, Little Tokyo, Historic Filipinotown, and Koreatown —that received federal recognition as a Preserve America neighborhood. [1] Today, Thai Town is home to about 60-plus Thai businesses, including silk shops, bookstores, and restaurants. Thai Town is also the site of several historic LosAngeles structures and landmarks, such as the Don Carlos Apartments, Trianon Apartments, and the Mayer Building on Hollywood and Western. Thai Town is home to Thai restaurants, shops, spas, and businesses that showcase the uniqueness and beauty of Thai culture. One of its key landmarks is Thailand Plaza, a gathering place for the Thai community in LosAngeles. As the an LA ethnic community landmark, Thai Town has not much to offer other than shopping and eating for Thai things. The area is located along rundown Hollywood Blvd. with a few rundown motels scattered along the area. Thai Town, which runs along Hollywood Boulevard from Normandie to Western avenues, is home to about 46 Thai businesses, including silk shops, bookstores, and restaurants.
